Mathematica’s Denise Hoffman Testifies at House Hearing on Barriers to Work for People with Disabilities

Eligibility for Social Security Administration disability benefits is based on the inability to sustain substantial earnings, yet millions of people receiving those benefits still indicate an interest in working in the future. Yet, limited awareness of complex program rules and available supports mean than some beneficiaries are less successful in working than they could be.

At a recent House Ways and Means hearing, Mathematica disability policy expert Denise Hoffman shared her research and called for simpler rules, better implementation, and renewed SSA authority to test reforms that could support work and financial independence.
