We made a data equity checklist—and checked it twice!—to help you find out if you got it all right
The E-W Framework recommends eight data equity principles that can be applied throughout the data life cycle, from a project’s inception to its conclusion. We created a Data Equity Principles Checklist to help you assess whether your data project follows best practices for using data ethically and effectively.

New Year’s resolution: Get trained on the framework (no sweat needed)

Launching in early 2025 on the Training Hub powered by StriveTogether, the Introduction to the Education-to-Workforce Indicator Framework is a self-paced offering that provides a comprehensive overview of the framework’s key components, including essential questions, indicators, metrics, and the data equity principles. This course is designed to help participants, including community-based organizations, policymakers, advocacy organizations, and others, understand how to use the framework to connect systems and drive progress on critical cradle-to-career milestones. With practical examples, the course will serve as both a stand-alone learning opportunity and a prerequisite for the Outcomes Courses launching in March. It focuses on actionable ways to apply the framework directly within your community. Stay tuned for the course link!

Generate yourself a merry little PowerBI report (on postsecondary enrollment)
For states that use the Common Education Data Standards (CEDS) Data Warehouse, the versatile PowerBI report Postsecondary Enrollment Directly After High School Graduation below not only combines critical insights needed to support students as they progress from one education level to the next, but also comes with open-source code, available in the E-W Indicator Framework’s GitHub repository on the CEDS Collaborative Exchange for easy implementation by states. States that use the CEDS Data Warehouse can adapt this code to generate tailored reports, like the one shown below, for their own needs. Please contact AEM Corporation with questions about the PowerBI report at ewframework@aemcorp.com.

Wrapping up 2024: The year in review
We are proud of what we have accomplished this year, which would not be possible without our partners, and we thank you all for your support! In case you missed them, here are some highlights from this year:
- In May, the framework website added new features and content, including a Get Started section with guidance on how to use the framework and a feature to generate downloadable PDFs based on filters applied to framework content. We also added an overall site search and new publications, tools, news, and announcements. Additional website enhancements are forthcoming in early 2025.
- We completed the framework’s first formal review process in collaboration with an advisory board, designed to ensure the framework reflects current thinking in the field and incorporates diverse expertise. The framework now includes a new disaggregate (student parenting status), a new data equity principle (establish inclusive data governance structures), and updates to select indicator definitions, metrics, and write-ups. More details are available on our updates page.
- We made connections at conferences and convenings, including the American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting, the Complete College America Data to Decisions Convening, the StriveTogether Cradle-to-Career Network Convening, the Ed-Fi Alliance Annual Summit, the Community of Innovation Annual Convening, the National Association of the State Boards of Education (NASBE) Annual Conference, and the California Association for Institutional Research Conference. We covered a range of topics, from framework overviews to in-depth workshops on essential questions, data equity principles, and indicators.

Liz Glaser (Mathematica) presents at the NASBE conference in October. Liz presented with representatives from EdTrust and the Kentucky State Board of Education, including an “essential questions walk” activity.
